MY STORIES

“Exploration is curiosity put into action”

- Don Walsh

Besides architecure, I am very passionate at exposing myself to many other things. From leadership programmes, forum events, workshops, and venturing around Singapore. Here are some of the key moments that have shaped and broaden my worldview.

POLY FORUM 2024 (TOTAL DEFENCE)

Poly Forum had a very profound impact on my life, and without this opportunity, I don’t know what else would have helped me achieve my best self. During this period, I was on the process of healing from a problem I had in life, which required me to rebuild my identity, rebuild how I see myself and how I want to express myself.

Poly Forum gave me that chance to be with people and express the best in me, I felt really carefree and energetic around my people, I was also seemingly very curious on this year’s topic on “Total Defence”, it gave me a fresh perspective that helped shaped my desire to serve for our society. Poly Forum not only gave me wisdom of the world, it built up my courage, curiosity, and commitment to help our world.

SOMERSET RESET ENGAGEMENT

By SCAPE* & MCCY

I used to be very naive on how the spaces in our cities are planned and arranged, until I came into the Somerset Reset engagement session held by SCAPE*. It turns out, there’s a lot to consider when you want to plan out your city! Exploring the current Somerset Belt made me realize how much value intentionality brings to a space.

During the session, brainstorming together with other youths felt like a clash of so many ideas and perspective, but we settled down, listened and collaborated. Somerset Belt’s engagement session sparked a new appreciation in me on city planning and design, and also taught me the value of teamwork and constructive dialogue.

POLICY HACKATHON

By MAJU & NYC (National Youth Council)

At one point I started gaining interest on how policies shape Singapore’s ecosystem. MAJU’s Policy Hackathon introduced me to the basics of policymaking, where policies are written in the forms of a White Paper & it has 3 main evaluation strategies called the Carrot, Sermon & Stick.

This hackathon’s challenge was for us to use the future’s thinking framework to forecast possible challenges in Singapore’s context, one of the frameworks to help forecast changes is in the form of STEEP (Social, Technological, Environmental, Economical, Political). My group decided to look at Singapore’s waste management and Semakau landfill, our proposed vision was to split recycables to go to a variety of different outcomes.

DÉRIVE JOURNEYS

The dérive is a concept where one has an aimless walk through city streets, that follows the whim of the moment. I transformed this concept to a challenge where I have to walk from one place to another with no planned route and no GPS. I enjoy the explorative side of the dérive, as if I were to be lost in a city finding my way around it, and by walking, I can take in sights I wouldn’t have been able to on bike or public transport.

10 derives done in total
