A GROUP PROJECT BY :  GARY NG & RINESWARAN S/O PARI

Tasked to design a net zero school situated on a site along the northern coastal lines, with hills to the east and southwest. With an existing self-contained flora and fauna, the school must not disrupt the existing ecosystem on site. Thus the design takes advantage of the existing elements to encourage students to learn from the natural environment around them.

In order to achieve net zero, the design leverages the surrounding natural elements such as sea breezes, hillside shading, and a nearby creek for both evaporative cooling & a water wheel which all works together to create energy for the building and maximises user comfort. Whilst harnessing solar and wind energy for the building’s electricity.

Its key facilities include classrooms that has natural lighting, science laboratories, a resource-rich library, and art studios looking out nature. An amphitheatre provides space for large classes and events, while the surrounding nature area offers hands-on learning with local flora and fauna.

KEY ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGIES:

As the site is along the coastal areas, sea breeze can be taken advantage of.

The neighbouring hills allow for significant sun shading.

The creek gives accessibility to flowing water, allowing evaporative cooling & generation of power with a water wheel.

A naturally occurring pathway is also available in the flora and fauna reserve, allowing opportunities to learn from & in nature.
